Wine Down LIVE: Girlfriends Wine

This week we have officially found our first Girlfriends wine! What’s a girlfriends wine you ask? It’s a wine perfect for a night in with girls paired with a few good cheeses (Havarti   and Goat cheese are a few of my recent faves) You’ve got to pick this one up! It’s also a fave of our resident wine bestie Maxine.

  • Varietal: Trivento Amado Sur
  • Wine Rating: TEN
  • Suggested Pairing: Havarti or soft goat cheese
  • BGW label: Girlfriends Wine

Chocolate Wine? Wine Not?!

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this beauty in my local wine shop. I had heard of the Chocolate wine but not dared try it. This week on #WineDownLIVE I braved the unknown and to my surprise— this wine was a WIN!

The chocolate flavor is just strong enough to make it sweet but not so strong you lose the grape taste and feel of this red blend.

On a scale of 1-10 I rated this delectable varietal a 9!

It was tasty and not as sweet as sounds, making it the perfect after dinner treat for any wine lover. This one you’ve got to pick up because I was thoroughly impressed with this varietal and will definitely be picking it up again!

Label: Rapidan River Chocolate Wine

#WhatWereLoving Wednesday & everything in between

Happy Wednesday wine besties!

I miss you all so much tonight but I am still under the weather so I am unable to go LIVE! But that will not stop our party! I obviously am drinking nothing but Theraflu but that doesn't mean there aren't a few things I'm super excited about. Check out #WhatWereLoving Wednesday and make sure to talk back in the comments!

Diddy is making wine

Not to sure what his first label will be but we’re definitely looking forward to what is in the works. Looks like right now he’s accepting contact regarding the wine & spirits brand. (So if you’re a wine maker I would head on over like

Last night members of the congressional black Caucus showed OWT at the #SOTU rocking Kente cloth in response to Trumps recent comments about Africa. Too much? We think not

I had the great pleasure of meeting this awesome lady a few months ago. I knew of “Blacks Girls Wine” but hadn’t looked up long enough to realize that it was founded in my own front yard, my city, Richmond, VA. Shayla is phenomenal and shares her awesome journey of stepping out there, getting a few scrapes and bruises, taking the lessons and planning for a great return.

Meet Shayla Courtney Varnado and Blacks Girls Wine at the Behind the Business -East Conference on February 10, 2018 at the Dominion Arts Center in Richmond, VA. Get your tickets here.

The SIP Files: Black Box Wine Review

First up for our monthly wine review is the Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon. My husband brought Black Box home for my weekly TGIT date night with myself to surprise me and at first like most wine lovers I gave the box a side eye. But at first sip this wine was absolutely delicious I knew I wanted to review it but then I decided to read the box -- it's supposed to stay good for 6 weeks!

True to it's claim, six week later this beauty was in fact still just as fresh and delicious! I give this beauty an 8 out of 10! This cab was impressively smooth, dry enough to pair with a yummy alfredo or savory salmon-- but not bitter at all! The important question is did it last 6 weeks? YES! This wine was as fresh week 6 as it was on day one!

If you give it a try let me know what you think!
